Anchors

Description: A ship comes from a distant land to a new country, but the law of the new country refuses them permission to land. The ship remains stranded in the port for six weeks, with no food or supplies for the passengers. The leader of the ship, while reckoning with his religious beliefs and a soothsayer’s prophecy, faces a mutiny from his fellow passengers as he tries to mend his relationship with his son; the mixed race immigration officer faces a test to prove his loyalty to the new country while navigating problems in his married life; and a young couple who scammed their way onto the ship faces reality when they realize that their dreams may not come true after all.

The play consists of nine characters but should be played only by two actors, and lends itself more easily to physical, experimental, non-naturalistic theatre.

Length: 70 minutes
